Welcome to part two of Self Awareness
4. Find ways to challenge yourself
As the ancient philosopher Seneca once wrote "I judge you unfortunate because you have never lived through misfortune. You have passed through life without an opponent— no one can ever know what you are capable of, not even you."
From this we can learn the lesson that our challenges can make us aware of who we are, it can also give us real time feedback if we can stop and listen.
FIND THAT CHALLENGE
5. Conduct Personality testing
There are some tools out there to help find what your personality style is, and help with strategies on how you might have to change yourself or the situation to get the best results, some I have seen/done in the past are;
MBTI - Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is a known personality test that is best administered by someone trained in this method (The MBTI was the first personality test I was exposed to and it changed my life)
DiSC Profile - Uses four quadrants to show where your most preferred style is. (Did this one on a leadership course it was a good insight)
Least preferred coworker (LPC) scale - Is another one to see who is you least want to work with and to challenge you to change, this is another way to self awareness.
Just search the internet for additional information.
One thing to remember is that sometimes people can use these profiles to pigeon hole you into a type of thinking as in "XYZ profile is who I am and others need to change to work better with me" whatever you learn about yourself DONT DO THAT, instead use it as an insight to learn that you have certain needs and ways to work/communicate with you best maybe the person you are working with (or your partner) has different needs then you, think "can I change how I approach this situation for the best outcome?"
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT YOU
7. Patience
Remember above all be patient with yourself, all this takes time. To become truly self aware it will take the time and really if I’m honest is this is something we might never really attain as this is a life long journey but should that stop us from trying? NO
There is always something to learn about yourself, are you the person you were yesterday ... well maybe... are you the person you were 10 years ago? definitely not.
BE PATIENT WITH YOURSELF
There are many more topics on self awareness and I hope some or all of the points help you on your journey, stay tuned for more Enjoy Growth.
Take care,
Mitch
