True self awareness is one of the hardest skills one must master on any journey of growth.
Have you tried to truly get to know yourself?
Do you know what you are good at or not so good at?
Have you been able to be honest? Remember no one is watching ..... its ok we have all been there it's hard, we can struggle to truly look at ourselves, we get distracted when we finally get to something good or your ego gets in the way. If you can, awesome keep up the good work.
Here are some tools and strategies that may be helpful in assisting in self awareness;
1. Leave the EGO behind
You must first leave your ego at the door when you start the self awareness journey, feedback may hurt if you don't, remember that positive or negative feedback doesn't exist it's just feedback. This can be one of the hardest things to overcome (it was for me), but it must be done.
BE READY TO GROW!!!
2. Find a Mentor
Do you know someone that could help with your self awareness journey? Will they give you open and honest feedback? If you answered yes to both go get a coffee with that person and have a conversation about them becoming a mentor. This will allow the start of feedback that you may need to understand how you are perceived by the outside world (no person is an island), it will also allow you to talk though your ideas and ask for advice on anything including self awareness.
GET THAT FEEDBACK
Things that might help get a mentor
Remember you are someone that has skills and experience that is valuable, what could you bring to the relationship?
Find leaders in your own organization or in other groups e.g. LinkedIn, Facebook, schools and then PM/DM them you may be surprised
Those above leaders could receive 1000's of PM/DM's a day try and stand out
Also as they might receive 100's of requests so don't be bummed if you don't get a reply.....
3. READ
One quote that I like is "not all readers are leaders but all leaders are readers" why because the learning of new knowledge and ideas allows one to grow, find time in your busy schedule to read. Reading allows new ideas to be placed into your thoughts for action now or at a later stage (hopefully reading this blog is one). Give your brain time to comprehend what the idea or new thought..... you can re-write, highlight, mark, dog ear, postit, write in the book or journal to help with this comprehension.
NOW ACT ON THOSE NEW IDEAS.
END PART ONE

Thanks Mitch for the 3 easy to implement steps, I particularly like the way you reframed feedback not being positive or negative but just feedback to use to grow, looking forward to part 2
